The Northern Animal Shelter

The Northern Animal Shelter has been operational since July 2009 and is managed by ACSL Group on behalf of North Shore City Council and Rodney District Council.

The shelter houses dogs that have been impounded in the North Shore City Council and Rodney District Council areas.

Dogs are impounded when found roaming loose in a public place, when they have wandered onto private property or are deemed to be a nuisance by constant

barking.

IF YOUR DOG IS MISSING...

Any North Shore residents enquiring about a missing dog should look on the North Shore City Council website, and contact the council 24-hour Actionline on 09 486 8600.

Rodney District residents enquiring about a missing dog should call the Rodney District Council call centre on 0800 426 5169.

Any Auckland City Council residents enquiring about a missing dog should contact Animal Control Services on 09 360 0750.

If your dog hasn't been impounded, then it may have been hurt.  Injured dogs are taken to the SPCA in Mangere.

Dog Adoptions

Before any dog can be adopted from the Northern Animal Shelter, the following needs to take place:

  • An inspection of your property is carried out and approved by your local Council
  • The dog is health checked by our veterinarian
  • A canine temperament evaluation is conducted
  • The dog will be de-sexed, microchipped, vaccinated and registered

Please call the Northern Animal Shelter on (09) 421 0222 weekdays 1:30 pm - 4:30 pm and weekends 10:00 am - 12:00 pm if you have any questions at all.
